Executive Director (Remote) <> EDGE Consortium

Career Center,

Full Position Description:

https://www.edgeconsortium.org/– a coalition of universities and engineering schools founded by women presidents and deans of engineering committed to expanding the engineering and technology workforce – is seeking nominations and expressions of interest for an inaugural Executive Director (Remote) . This is a key position to achieve an audacious goal of doubling the semiconductor workforce. Success can only be achieved by drawing upon the full talent of our nation and significantly increasing opportunities for those who have been traditionally underrepresented in STEM.

The $52.7 billion https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/02/09/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-over-5-billion-from-the-chips-and-science-act-for-research-development-and-workforce/ was passed in 2022 with strong bipartisan support to boost domestic research and manufacturing of semiconductors in the United States. Women leaders from Dartmouth College, Indiana University, Brown University, University of California-Berkeley, University of Rochester, University of Washington, and Olin College of Engineering took this as a call to action and formed the EDGE Consortium (EDGE) to forge new pathways into STEM jobs and training. The success of CHIPS – and the nation's ability to compete in the global tech race – hinges on tapping the full strength of the nation's talent and expanding the pipeline into the industry. EDGE aims to more than double the number of trained, industry-ready workers, including women and traditionally underrepresented populations, to help fill critical semiconductor-related positions. In fulfilling this goal, EDGE seeks to unite leaders across the public and private sectors to expand U.S. leadership in the semiconductor landscape and develop solutions that drive innovation, economic growth, and national security.

To build on its early momentum, EDGE will need dedicated, imaginative, and innovative leadership. The Executive Director will be expected to work closely with the https://www.edgeconsortium.org/about/#leaders to guide the Consortium's next chapter and advance the highest ambitions of EDGE. This is a unique opportunity to stand-up a national organization involving multiple stakeholders with needs that are ready and waiting to be aligned around and working towards their common goal.

The ideal candidate will bring exceptional leadership and management experience as well as the ability to guide, manage, direct, and execute, with the drive to build on the program's early accomplishments and continue to advance an ambitious program of national impact. The Executive Director must be comfortable with a co-governance structure. They may come from a variety of fields – including higher education, industry, and government – but will possess a strong track record of accomplishment, a passion that will invigorate others to join in this effort, an inclination to act with pace and vigor, the ability to build innovative organizations, and a hunger to make a mark on a groundbreaking program. The Executive Director will possess skills in support of strategic planning, revenue generation, operational excellence, and organizational growth along with the maturity and interpersonal communication skills to engage and align a broad range of stakeholders. This position will be remotely located with the expectation that the Executive Director will travel on behalf of EDGE. As such, they must be a self-directed and independent worker with the ability to forge connections and partnerships.
